Stefan H. Hohnloser, MD

Dr. HohnloserDr. Hohnloser is Director, Department of Clinical Electrophysiology, J. W. Goethe University, Frankfurt, Germany. Professor Hohnloser was educated at the University of Freiburg, Germany. In 1980 he was appointed Research Assistant in the Department of Physiology of that university for two years. From 1984 to 1985, he held the position of Research Assistant at the Harvard School of Public Health, and Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, USA. From 1986 to 1995, he worked at the university hospital in Freiburg where he finished his training in internal medicine and cardiology. Since 1995, he has served as a Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at the J. W. Goethe University, Frankfurt. He was promoted to Director of the Department of Clinical Electrophysiology at this university in 2002.

He is a fellow of numerous institutions including the American College of Cardiology, the European Society of Cardiology, the Heart Rhythm Society, and the German Society of Cardiology. Professor Hohnloser is an author of more than 250 articles in peer-reviewed journals and more than 40 book chapters. He is a reviewer for the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Journal of the American Medical Association, Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, Heart Rhythm, American Journal of Physiology, American Journal of Cardiology, European Heart Journal, American Heart Journal, Pace and Journal of Electrocardiography.

His main research interests are sudden cardiac death, risk stratification for sudden death, device therapy of life-threatening arrhythmias and pharmacological/nonpharmacological therapy of atrial fibrillation.
